PC ChrisGunnell (Crime Reduction Officer) 01642 302662Crime Prevention Advice: Within the St Germains ward of Marske there has been a recent increase in the number of burglaries and theft from motor vehicles, these have mainly been occurring overnight.
A high number of these have occurred when premises, garages, sheds or vehicles have been left insecure.
Make sure you close and lock all doors and windows, do not leave valuables on display as this can encourage a thief to steal them.
Do not leave valuables, such as Sat Navs, in vehicles, the first places a thief will look is in the glove box or under the front seats.
Make sure external lighting around your home is working.
Please be extra vigilant and report anything suspicious.
Consider joining Neighbourhood Watch, these volunteer groups assist the Police by sharing information about local crimes, reporting suspicious incidents, taking crime prevention measures to protect their homes and possessions and by looking after their neighbours’ homes.
It is also about getting to know your neighbours, creating a community spirit and looking out for each other. You can help reduce crime in your area by becoming a member.
Overall crime is down in our district, and by carrying out a few simple actions we can help keep it down. The importance of these actions cannot be understated, not only do they reduce the opportunity for crimes to take place, they assist in detecting crime, apprehending criminals and often more importantly reducing the fear of crime.
